Profile
Ø Drs. Lenny Bouman has been the Course Director of the
Double Degree , a joint 3 year teacher training programme for TEFL (Teaching
English as a foreign language) offered both by the HR (= The Rotterdam University
of professional Education) and BCHE, Bath Spa University College. From 1990
– 2003, the year she took early retirement.
Ø In addition to this she has been a senior lecturer in
TEFL Methodology. she has written all readers for the 4 year Methodology
programme.
Ø In this respect she has been coaching and supervising
students in all years during their school experience.
Ø As from 2001 she has been a professional Assessor
both for adult students of English and for “zijistromers”, adult
students with an academic degree in an other subject but who take the TEFL
course to become teachers of English.
Ø She has an advanced Certificate in Coaching teachers
with the aid of video.
Ø From 1973 – 1990 she has been a senior lecturer
in British and American Literature at the HR, the Rotterdam University of
Professional Education, the School of Modern Languages.
Ø During her employment in the Faculty of Teacher
Training she has been providing In-Service training in many areas of Teacher
Education, Language Teaching and Learning both nationally and internationally.
Ø Last but not least she has participated in a number
of networks and been the chairperson for 8 years of KASTALIA, a network,
organizing international student and staff exchanges in the Department of
Modern Languages and teacher and mentor education.
Ø From 1998 to 2002 she has been an active member of a
international team, sponsored by Brussels to set up Mentor and Supervisors
training and education in Europe. MENDEVAL. See Mendeval Website.
Ø In 2003 she retired from the Hogeschool Rotterdam,
however after 1 year the realized she missed the contact with teachers and
students.
Ø As from 2004 she works free lance for the
Christelijke Hogeschool Windesheim in coaching and supervising teacher
trainees.
She has specialized and
published in the following areas :
- methods and strategies to
promote more efficient reading including reading for ESP purposes.
- methods and approaches to generate
creative and imaginative pupils' responses in the study of
language and literature.
- methods to teach language
through literature, i.e. poetry and short stories
- methods of using video in
the teaching of language in general and language within a business context,
esp. or of literature
- methods of using video in
the teaching of literature
- methods of initiating and
promoting communication in the language classroom, esp. for business purposes.
Lenny Bouman has written numerous
articles on general didactic topics and especially on the Use of video in the
teaching of English as a foreign language and in the Teaching of literature.
She is the author of a
number of books on the methodology of teaching literature and on efficient
reading strategies for business purposes, and she has been co-author of a
course book for English at secondary level.
Besides being an author she
has been editor of
- a series of readers,
- course books for English
at secondary schools
- a course book for Dutch as
a second language.
For the past 20 years she
has been actively involved in developing and writing courses for the Department
of English. These courses are:
